It was good to see both familiar and new faces during The Living Word 2007. We were privileged to have Derek Tidball, Principal of London School of Theology as our Guest Speaker. His main theme was ‘Living Through Uncertain Times’. Derek guided us skilfully through some less-travelled chapters from the book of Judges, uncovering some surprising and challenging parallels with the times in which we live, and leaving us with much to think through and apply to our own situations and walk with God.
For the first time we were able to supply recordings of the talks in both CD and cassette format, and even as MP3’s on request, for those who like to listen on computers or Ipods.
Numbers were significantly up for our lunchtime meeting for ministers and church leaders, where Derek spoke on ‘How to mess up! Lessons from a Leadership Failure,’ drawing out no less than eleven warnings for us as leaders from the life of King Saul. The sumptuous roast beef lunch that followed was served in the very fine new upstairs facilities of The Link.
The Living Word Youth Night, ‘Rock the Boat’ was held on Saturday 23rd June. Simon Ford and his team led a lively evening of worship, teaching, discussion and, of course, snacks, looking at whether we play it safe in uncertain times or act with bold faith.
Once again, we are greatly indebted to Cosham Baptist Church for so generously hosting The Living Word in their excellent premises. Thank you to Michael Herbert, especially for leading the evening sessions again, to Jill in the office, Heather and her lunch team, and all the many church members who so willingly gave their time and skills as musicians, stewards, refreshment makers, etc. I also want to thank all the members of The Living Word Committee for dealing with their various areas of responsibility so efficiently and for all the fellowship we have enjoyed together.
Our attention now turns to The Living Word 2008, when our guest speaker from June 17th – 19th will be Jonathan Lamb. Director of Langham Preaching.
God willing, we look forward to welcoming Jonathan to The Living Word 2008, which will again be held at Cosham Baptist Church. We hope that you also will be able to join us, bringing others from your various churches to make the most of this opportunity for excellent biblical teaching, worship and warm fellowship. See you there!

Ministers’ Lunch
Twenty six of us in mainline church leadership met on the Wednesday lunchtime for this meeting – perhaps attracted by Derek Tidball’s title, ‘How to Mess Up – Lessons from the Life of Saul”. We can learn through negative as well as positive examples, and Derek’s talk was thoroughly biblical (based firmly in Saul’s life) as well as very practical and stimulating. Afterwards there was good fellowship over a roast dinner service in the new first floor conference suite. A very worthwhile occasion.
